Today I’m going to let you peek into my quilt quazy space and share some of my little organizing tips because….
Staying organized is the key to fitting more stuff in!

THE STUDIO
I’ve packed a longarm, 3 work stations, and a design wall into a 10’ x 10’ room with a walk in closet. That’s bigger than some and smaller than others but I’m happy.
Entry and closet doors….and part of my wind up toy addiction
Just inside the door is a shelf filled with little storage drawers. Each machine has it’s own easy to locate tool drawers. Below that threads are sorted and safe from dust.
Doors are also usable space. There’s a foam board mounted to the back of my door with Command Strips for notes and tape measures are always easy to locate hanging on the door knob.
Each machine has a bobbin ring. These are WONDERFUL, easy to carry, hang and sort.
Turning to my right ~ My longarm is on wheels so it can be pushed back against the wall. There’s no need to waste that floor space when it’s not in use. The “air” space below is used for storage.
Walls are for inspiration and swap gifts. I have fun little things that I enjoy tucked around the room.
Hair ties are great for keeping pantographs neatly stored. Grid rulers are safely stashed in slotted boards between the cabinets.
Turning to my right again ~ I have 3 work stations. This one is used as my work desk. A crate turned on it’s side doubles as file storage and shelf space.
These little hanging baskets great catching threads and other doodads. You can find a free tutorial HERE.
Tip: Don’t sew the notch in step 2. Wait until step 4 otherwise it’s thick to sew through.
Music is kept in another cute basket.

I found that the best set up for me was pushing two tables together. My main sewing station is on a sturdy old desk with extra drawers for storage. The second table is handy when sewing large quilts so they don’t drop down and pull. It’s also my cutting table on normal days.
A design wall is tucked behind the entry door ~ space that normally would go to waste. It’s also hung with Command Strips like everything else.

All drawers are divided with little basekts and bins for better use of space. I can’t stand “digging” to find things.
Not a storage tip but if you THINK you can see then you haven’t seen Inspired LED lights!!
I’ve added them to all my machines. You can even customize them like I did.
THE CLOSET
This is where the tour ends for my husband… LOL
Don’t settle for one closet shelf…fill that “air” space with cubbies.

Projects are cut and waiting in bins ~ some days I only like to cut and some days sew. Quilts waiting for the longarm are on hangers.
Sort, sort, sort and label!
All scraps are sorted into color coded tubs. All supplies and notions are separated into shoebox size totes. It takes some effort to get organized at first but you won’t waste time later digging for things.
More cubbies were added below the closet shelf to hold color coded yardage.

I love your shelves. I have baskets full of projects everywhere.Maybe I need to label them.
It's pretty funny that we have this in common and I'm so happy that I'm not the only one who believes in using up that open space.. LOL I keep thinking about how funny it is that I've moved into a new home.. a big home no less and I'm using our master bedroom as my sewing space... well I'll show it Wednesday, but like you, I totally believe in using up that space, I really dislike it when a wall is "empty" or not being used if a shelf or hanging can't be up against it.. Oh how neat and organized! I have been doing a reorganization of my supplies and am finding it alot easier to find things.

I'm pretty much as organized as you are. I have a label machine which helps to identify what is in boxes and drawers. I had no idea an LED light is available for machines and am definitely going to look into one.

I love how you set up your sewing space. My son built a closet for me to store my fabrics and put cabinets up on the wall for storage. I love it, but I don't have much wall space to hang quilts or other things.However, I do have lots of space for storage and everything has a place. Thank you for sharing today.

You have packed a "whollup" into your creative space. Love your longarm on wheels. That's a great idea. And what...I can use those hair ties for my pantographs! That's genius. My rubber bands get hard and break, I tried Hugo's amazing tape, but that give up after awhile. I have a bag of those crazy ties and I'm headed down to fix all my pantos now! Happy Dance Happy Dance!
I have some antique cabinets that I use for storage. I love seeing my FQ stash in the antique china cabinet. I wish I had the space that I had in IL, but I think the space here in AL is working pretty well. I do have a couple ideas to improve it. You are right about the need for organization.

It is so nice to view another person's ideas of storage solutions and working in smaller spaces. It goes to say that it is definitely achievable!
Your space is most impressive! I am not quite that organized. I like to think it's because I share a space with my dh and so have to keep some of the clutter out of his way. I do know where most everything is though!
This hop has has give ,me several ideas for my sewing area. I really liked the lighting site and will get a couple that I saw as finances allow.I liked the cubbies in the closet as well. While I do use the shelves in the closet I had not thought to use the cubbies. Thanks for both of those ideas.
My space is a spare bedroom with a wide and about 3 feet deep closet. There are 2 doors to the room and 2 full size corner windows, so there is not a lot of wall space. My fabric is stashed in labeled clear bins stacked on the closet floor. Two shelves above have small clear labeled bins with WIPs, scraps, buttons, etc. I have a table along one wall and my sewing machine cabinet is at a right angle to it. When I have a large quilt to try quilting by machine I can turn the cabinet so the quilt will have a place to lay without dragging. I have a bookshelf which holds my irons, and other craft projects. I have a couple of tall multi-drawer rolling bins with all my sewing supplies, sorted according to category, like shears and rotary cutters, small rulers and templates, etc. My other wall has my computer desk, printer stand, and small filing cabinet. The ironing board resides behind the door on that side. I have clear bins that hold batting and old jeans to be upcycled stacked stair-step like so my cat can climb up and lay on an old quilt in the sunshine (when there is sunshine).
I can only dream of a longarm - way out of budget for me.
My thread is organized in large clear vases and kind of combined by color (I need to sort those out before I repost).

I loosely organize my thread in clear vases and my fabric in dresser drawer.
All of my music is ripped to my laptop so all I have to do is put it on shuffle and I am entertained for hours.

I enjoyed seeing your studio. I fill up the 'air' space wherever possible too. I started putting my yardage on foam core boards in my square cubbies. My smaller fabric pieces are in plastic containers, organized by colour. I have an Ikea CD tower for fat quarters. I love how pretty they look stacked in there.

Oh, your room is an inspiration. My husband has been saying I can't fit a longarm into my room. Your photos will show him it CAN be done! You are well organized. Guess I have to rearranage a bit.
