Meet A Quilter

meet a quilter

Welcome everyone! This month you’re in for a treat. Let me introduce you to Aimee and her pixel quilts. When I first saw Sheldon posted on Craftster I was totally amazed….then she did another one!

Hi! My name is Aimee and I am the owner of
Candy Coated Quilts. I live in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia with my husband and a menagerie of pets. A quilt is never complete until a cat or dog has slept on it! I am an accountant by day and the Treasurer of the Maritime Modern Quilt Guild in my "spare" time.

My husband and I on our honeymoon in Disneyworld!

I have done many different kinds of quilts over the years but the ones that I keep going back to are pixel quilts. I have done some that are over 10,000 squares to ones that are only 100 squares. Here are a few of my favorites:

Sheldon Cooper (from Big Bang Theory). This is my first pixel quilt. So many lessons learned!

Captain Jean-Luc Picard. A wedding present for a friend (it's queen-size!!)

Duck Hunt made for a Nintendo Art Gallery show

Bowser made as a commission

I'm not sure what got me into doing pixel quilts but I love how they look like a jumble of squares at first and then slowly transform into a picture. I have plans to do another large portrait piece as soon as I get some time (haha, right). My accounting background has allowed me to use excel for a lot of my designs when I need to make something from scratch. I also use cross-stitch patterns for some larger projects.

Have a look at a few of my non-pixel projects. You may notice something interesting: I only use Kona Cotton Solids (Dear Robert Kaufman, please send fabric!). I know that many quilters are the opposite but I have never figured out how to use patterned fabrics effectively in pixel quilts.

See? There's that dog I was talking about!

Commissioned piece for the wife of a comic store owner (store's logo)

For my family's cottage.

Well, that's Candy Coated Quilts in a nutshell except for one thing: wondering where the name came from? My husband says I eat too much candy!

Wasn’t that fun!! How many times did you have to go back and look at Sheldon and the Captain? I’m just in awe. Soooo many pieces.

Be sure to hop over to her blog, Candy Coated Quilts, to see what she’s up to.

♥THANK YOU♥ Aimee for sharing with us.

Oh my gosh Aimee, I just love your pixel quilts. You had me with the Sheldon Cooper quilt! Too funny...because the Big Bang Theory is my all time favorite show!
Oh yeah, and your hubby couldn't me more wrong...there is no such thing as too much candy! LOL!! I'm with Linda, licorice for me too! I was heart broken this past weekend when I found out they quit making Licorice Snaps! :-( What a great post. I'm so glad we got to see so many of your fabulous treasurers!
