Meet A Quilter and a Give Away

Let's give a big whoop whoop welcome to Sarah from Confessions of a Fabric Addict blog. I'm sure you've seen her Whoop Whoop and Hands2Help buttons. They're everywhere!! She's another busy, busy, quilter that shares a love of quilting for charity. That's how we first met.
______________________________________________________

Hi, everyone! My name is Sarah Craig, and I blog over at Confessions of a Fabric Addict.  Carol asked me to be part of her "Meet A Quilter" posts, and I'm so excited to be here!  It's always fun to meet new people and find out about what they like to do - so I'll start by telling you a bit about me and my blog!  Let's do it by the numbers....

1 - special husband who was my high school sweetheart!

2 - wonderful kids - my daughter and her husband!

3 - fabulous grandchildren - Lilli (7), Emmy (3), and Nathanael (also 3, but not a twin - he's adopted!)

5 - years I've been quilting and blogging.

10 - sewing machines - my Juki TL98Q that I use for all of my piecing, 3 vintage singers, 2 modern Singers, 1 hand-crank vintage machine, 1 Singer treadle, one Janome mini-machine for Lilli, and my wonderful long-arm, an Artistic 26 named Jolene!

11 - weeks since I finally got on Instagram after avoiding it forever!
And I learned that that's where all the missing bloggers went!
I reconnected with lots of bloggy friends that I thought had dropped off the face of the earth....
*You'll find me as @fabricaddictquilts on Instagram!

??? - number of quilts I've made since I started blogging......

I thought about trying to count up the number of quilts that I've made, but it just got too confusing - because not only do I quilt for my own pleasure, I quilt for our church's quilt ministry, Piece*Love*Quilt!  Literally hundreds of quilts have passed through my hands at one or another stage of their construction.

Personally, I love modern quilts - bright colors, interesting simple patterns, and fun quilting.  But with the quilt ministry, I get to work on all kinds of quilts - traditional, modern, antique - you name it, we do it!

Just a few of the quilts I've made for my kids and grandkids...

Each year at Christmas I make a quilt for each of my grandchildren.  I figure I've got a few more years before my daughter totally freaks out at the number of quilts at her house!  So far, I've made thirteen for all three kids, plus two for my daughter and one for my son-in-law.  But they all get lots of use and seem to be well-loved!  In fact, my granddaughter told me one year that the only thing she wanted from me for Christmas was a quilt!  High accolades...

I've found blogging very useful to keep myself focused and accountable.  On Mondays, I post my to-do list for the week, and review how well I finished the list from the week before.  It's a great way to stay on track!

On Fridays, I host "Can I Get A Whoop Whoop?" Fridays.  Anyone can link up their blogpost showing their accomplishments for the week - whatever is making them do a little happy dance!  It doesn't have to be a finish, just something the blogger is happy about.  No rules, no police.  Come join us!!

And once a year, beginning right after the first of the year, I host the Hands2Help Charity Quilt Challenge.  Begun back in 2011, we just finished up the fifth year of the Challenge!  If you like to make quilts for charity, or if you'd like to start, this is a great way to do it.  We usually have two to three different charities to choose from, and the participants make quilts and send them to the charities.  There are all sorts of exciting things happening during the Challenge - this year we had a quilt-along and eight different guest bloggers sharing tutorials for simple charity quilts.

Many participants come back year after year, and I've been told that many of them start their quilts for the next year right after the current year's Challenge ends!  The on-line quilting community being such a generous place, we've been blessed to be able to give out prizes for all the participants too!  Now, I know that's not the reason we make quilts for charity, but it is a nice way to be told "thank you"!  (The Challenge is how I met Carol in the first place - along with many other fabulous, generous quilt bloggers!)

I hope you'll stop by my blog to learn more about what makes me tick - I'm kind of quirky, with a weird sense of humor.  I believe that dust bunnies should be assigned "endangered species" status and treat mine accordingly.  I'm so glad that Outlander has been made into a television series, and secretly have a thing for men in kilts (ok, maybe not so secretly....)

Thanks for having me over to share, Carol!!  It was fun!!
___________________________________________________

♥THANK YOU♥ Sarah for visiting. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one with an "endangered species" living under the sofa. LOL.

It's always fun to get to know another quilter better. Now, I challenge EACH OF YOU to pull out your scrappy bins and share some quilty love with the  Hands2Help Charity ....or one of your own choice. Imagine how AWESOME that would be!!!

I'm trying to be better at finishing up projects. Trying is the key word. I keep getting tripped up with fun new patterns and stash busters, that I find. Other than that it's just work work work. The airport is a crazy place in the summers!

I just found an old sewing table and a singer 237 on the side of the road. It is quite different than my machine. So I am having some fun learning to use it. Let the projects begin!!!

currently I am building chicken coops for our chickens! then after that it will be back to the mini quilt swaps that I'm in! and a quilt for myself for when I move out because I've been using the one my parents were given for their wedding (26 years ago) and they'll probably want to keep it..
I love that you make quilts every year for your grandchildren! I always say that there can never be too many quilts! My plan is to make one for each of my siblings eventually. I've finished 1 and started the second. only 6 more to go after that.
thanks for the giveaway!

I'm new to your blog and am enjoying looking around. :) My main sewing goal for this summer is to finish two lap quilts that are started and get another two done as well. They go to our local senior center. Gotta love those seniors!!

I am eager to begin making some charity quilts, but since I'm newish to quilting I want to practice on friends and myself first :) I am stockpiling remnants and scraps for future charity quilts. I worked at a pediatric hospital and saw how appreciated handmade quilts (and pillowcases) were when we gave them to patients- can't wait to help provide more! The fabric squares are perfect for some cheerful, sweet quilts! Sarah: crjandsbj(at)netzero(dot)com

We are enjoying a stay cation and having fun discovering all the summer events in our area. The art galleries, arboretums and the aviaries are all open for the summer, with scheduled events. As are the farmer's markets (3 of them!) and the local flea market.

My hubby works on a farm, so no summer holidays for us - so, I make quilts (just did 2 for the H2H challenge) and knitted / crocheted afghans for a charity. I also have a garden - I do some canning for my family. I also (with the help of 2 sisters) "look after" my dad, who's in assisted living (he has dementia) - we go out a few afternoons a week. Finally, we're grandparents as of Jan. 26th, so I imagine there will be some visits to and from my favourite grandson!

Making a quilt to give someone in need is just the best feeling. Sewing is always a gift of love anyway...putting love into every stitch. This summer, we are driving our Jeep to Colorado to do some off-roading and enjoy the mountains!
