Weekend in Goliad

Hubby had a bike race in Goliad, Texas this weekend so pups and I tagged along for the adventure. Yup, that’s the sun just coming up over the top of the building in the background. IMG_2614

Goliad, Texas is a small, picturesque town packed with a rich history. This is a cannon left behind after the battle in 1836.

The historical center of town is a town square. It’s like something you would see in a movie. In the center of the square is an amazing courthouse.

The courthouse is surrounded by the most amazing old Oak Trees. I LOVE old, twisted Oak Trees. The branches are just amazing. This one is said to be the “hanging tree” where sentences were carried out. It sits just outside the courthouse. How is that for a creepy story?

Conveniently located on the other side of the square from the hanging tree was this building. Coffin, Caskets and Furniture Company dated 1900. Hmmm.

Pups and I took the walking trail from the town square down to the Espiritu Santo Mission. Based on time it was a probably about a 2 mile walk or so.

Some Spanish Ball Moss that grows on the Oak trees.

This was abandoned just off the trail in the woods. An appropriate artsy photo for the day don’t you think?
