When making scrappy quilts I like to add some interest by setting my blocks on a wonky tilt. You know me….I only do it if it’s easy peezy.
Supplies:
Fabric to make an extra wide border around your focal block
Ruler or pre-cut paper template the size of the finished block you want including the seam allowances
Step 1 – Add the Border
Add an extra wide border around your block. The wider the border the more of an angle you can tilt your block to. I used 2 and 3 inch borders.
Step 2 – Trim the Block
Place the template at an angle over the block. Make sure the corners of the template are within the fabric square.
Trim the block to it’s finished size.You can vary tilting blocks left and right.
That’s all there is to it! Now you know the secret too♥
When you place the block vertical your inner focal block will be on a wonky tilt. How easy peezy was that?!
Look how playful and fun it makes this row look.
Same technique used here with small centers and really wide border strips. The border strips were sewn on “long cabin” style to make it even more visually wonky.
