Fake fur can be fun to work with. It comes as craft sheets or on the bolt at the fabric store.
It does not fray and is easy to sew. It does shed little hairs until you are finished working with it.

Important: Fur has nap. Nap means it has a right ad wrong direction to the fibers. If you brush it up it will look messy. If you brush it down it will look smooth and neat. Be sure to cut all your pattern pieces in the correct direction so the fur runs top to bottom.

How to cut fur: From the “wrong” side of the fabric carefully slide your scissors under the fur layer so you are just cutting the backing fabric. Otherwise you will be giving the fur a hair cut as you go. If cut correctly the fur will hang below the cut edge. Scissors with a sharp point are helpful for this task.

Small scrap of Velcro

Step 1 – Hem the Ends
Make two 1/2 inch turns on the end of the ribbon and pin.

Sew this to make a hem.

Repeat these steps to hem the other end of the ribbon.

Step 2 – Add Velcro
Trim the Velcro so it is as wide as your ribbon.

Pin and sew the fuzzy piece of Velcro to one end of the ribbon and the loopy piece of Velcro to the other. Important: One Velcro piece will be on the bottom of the ribbon and one will be on the top so they will overlap when closed. See the photo below.

Fringed Messenger Bag (over the shoulder)
Fake Suede is another fun fabric to use. It does not fray and can be fringed. It is a little wiggly to cut and sew. Make sure you pin well and keep an eye on your seams.
Important: Fake Suede has a nap. Nap means that there is a right and wrong direction to the fibers. If you brush it up it will look darker and feel rough. If you brush it down it will look smooth and neat. Be sure to cut all your pattern pieces in the correct direction.
