The Details

For a chance to win simply leave a comment stating what your favorite Halloween costume of all time was.

The random generated drawing will be Sept 3rd and posted on Sept 4th. I will ship international.

My favorite costume

Money was tight growing up so we had to be creative and use our resources wisely. I made an alien from a shiny dress that my grandmother made from fabric scraps. She used to sew for the Philadelphia Mummers. I spray painted a wig green and added TV antennae…old enough to remember those?? Swiped my dad’s leather gloves and my brother’s ray gun. Klaatu Barada Nikto. Hahaha img001

Happy Hopping!

love the ideas. I didn't grow up in the US but had a similar day, my favorite costume was being a chinese lady, spray painted my blond hair black and had long fake nails. kimono and fan too.

My favorite costume was one I sewed for my son. It was a white satin jumpsuit with rhinestones and a gold-lined cape - yep, a three-year-old Elvis. I was a novice sewer, so it took me 40 hours and cost 40 dollars, but it was a huge hit!! It rained that year, so we trick-or-treated at the mall (this was 17 years ago) and he turned heads wherever he went. As we left one store, the clerk yelled out "Elvis has left the building"! Such good memories!

My favorite costume was one that I made for my daughter when she was about 15 years old. She is a huge Star Wars fan, and wanted to be Queen Amadala-- and after putting in lots of thought, we came up with an incredible costume-- made from an old angel costume that we dyed red, then added the black trim. We made her wig/headdress. Her dress even had the little light-up globes at the bottom-- and we used a string of battery-operated Christmas lights to make them light up! She was in the marching band that year, and they got to perform their half-time show in costume! It was fun to hear all the "WOW's" and "OOOH's" and "LOOK at THAT'S" from everyone! That was one fun costume for sure! I love Halloween! :-)

We don't really do Halloween here in Australia.. although my husband grew up in American camps in Indonesia (my FIL was in Oil/Gas) so once we had kids my MIL decorates the house and buys them a pile of candy!

The very first Halloween that we celebrated with my son he was about 2 or 3? And I made him a ghost costume out of a cot sheet. I even used pink thread to zig zag where I'd cut the hole for the mouth, and grey/black where I'd done the eyes. He thought it was the best thing ever! Halloween is his favourite holiday and he asks every year if he can go trick or treating.. somehow he doesn't seem to think just going to Grandma's cuts it!

My favorite costume is the Statue of Liberty costume I made one year for my granddaughter using fabric of just the right color that I found in the sale section of Jo-Ann Fabrics. Both the torch and the crown were fun to make and came out great!

That is easy....My favorite costume, was when my soon to be husband, wore his mothers nightgown.

My fave costume was Bride of Frankenstein. I mocked up a gown out of a bedsheet, wrapped my arms in white gauze bandages for the sleeves, and actually paid a salon to tease/rat my long, long hair into the BOF beehive (the hair was actually secured onto a stack of styrofoam cups, which were hidden under all that ratting). It was AWESOME. When I finally pulled the pins and stack of cups out, my hair looked like one of those Troll Dolls (from the 1970s)

Mine was probably my snow white costume when I was 6 or 7!

We had 7 children in our family, and I think we only had one piece of a store bought costume ever. It was a Batman plastic helmet. We still talk about that helmet, because I think we all wore it at one time or another. It didn't matter if you were a boy or a girl.

I didn't really "dress up" as a child but when teaching I had a child come as a refrigerator. His dad had made box into a refrigerator(complete with food in it) and it fit right over him. So absolutely adorable to see a 5-yr. old wearing this outfit!

My favorite costume was one I made for my daughter. We had a litter of golden retriever puppies so she wanted to be a golden puppy.
I used a white sweatshirt and pants from a discount store.I dyed them with tea to get just the right light golden brown. Then I made floppy puppy ears of felt and glued them to a headband.

My favorite Halloween costume was one I made, not wore. When my daughter was nearly three, I made her the Snow White costume from the Disney pattern, the one with the inverted pleats in the sleeve, etc. With the matching cape and an brooch to close it, she looked and felt like a princess and I felt like a fairy godmother!

We don't do halloween, but when I was a kid we did. The only memorable costume I can think of was a ladybug my mom (who hates to sew) made for me. It was very well done.

My daughter was the Ace of Hearts. We made a pillowcase type costume, sewed on the card markings. Then the next year she was a stop sigh. She made a sign out of poster paper, added the red background and white letters, and fastened it on with strips of fabric. I've had both costumes and many more for years. The grandkids love them for dressup.

My favorite costume that I ever made was for our son when he was little. He was a jack o lantern. I made him a few costumes when he was little - a Ninja turtle, a clown, a Power Ranger and a lion. After while, it was more expensive to make them than to buy a ready made costume.
Thanks for participating in the blog hop.
Regards from Western Canada,

My son was a dinosaur the first time he went out trick or treating. A lady who was shopping at the same fabric store talked me into buying green and purple satin. I still have it! He really didn't like to dress up so for years he was a Ninja...over and over and over again!

Sue said...

My favorite costume was for my youngest son. I tried for a couple of years to get his big brother to go for this costume but no go. The younger on the otherhand was ready for anything! I dressed him up as a Jack-in-the-box! Painted a cardboard box in bright colors, got one of those multi-colored wigs, striped socks and lots of face make-up. He won $25 at the Halloween parade at the local mall and his brother was not happy...told him that he had first go at the idea and didn't want to do it!
