QuiltWoman Blog Hop

Welcome to the QuiltWoman.com blog hop. It's summer here and we thought we'd "wet" your creative appetite with a fun water theme. So grab your "raft" and "drift" along as seven designers make a "splash" with some great tips and tricks.

I'm going to share a quick EQ7 tutorial. Let's manipulate nodes and lines to create some drips, drops, oozes, and waves similar to what's in my newest pattern.

Swim Lessons wall hanging
20" x 23"

Let's start with a pre-made shape.

When you click on the line using the Shape Tool  the nodes appear with their handles. You can grab and drag these handles to manipulate the shape.

Let's go a step further. You can add more nodes by double clicking anywhere on a line with the Shape Tool.

When you click directly on the center of a node you will see special options appear on the tool bar. These change the way the lines react at that node when the handles are moved.

Create away! How about using the Bezier Curve or Freehand Tools to create some oozing goo....hmmm, maybe frosting. I'm hungry right now.

If you want to create something symmetrical like waves you can turn on the grid as a guide. Clicking on multiple lines while holding the shift key will make all the nodes and handles appear at the same time. You will be able to easily drag each line to the same point on the grid to create symmetrical shapes.

I hope you learned a new trick or two!
