Get your doll ready for Halloween with an easy peezy witch costume.
Halloween Witch Dress
1/3 yard of knit fabric
10 inches of 1/4 inch wide elastic
Machine needle for stretch fabric
Chalk Wheel or other fabric marking pencil
Freezer paper, wrapping paper or newspaper to draw your pattern on
Sewing supplies
Note: Place a needle made for sewing stretch fabric in your machine. Be careful not to pull on the knit fabric while sewing or it will stretch out of shape and pucker.
Step 1 – Make the Pattern
Draw a 12 x 14 inch rectangle and label it “Dress - Cut 2”
Step 2 – Cut the Fabric
Fold the fabric with “pretty sides” touching so it is two layers thick.
Pin the pattern on top and cut out.
Remove the pattern.
Step 3 – Sew the Side Seam
Place the fabric with “pretty sides” touching. Make the edges even and pin.
On the long side of the dress measure and mark 5 inches down from the top. Use a chalk wheel to make a mark.Do this on both long edges.
Sew from the dot to the bottom edge of the dress using a 1/2 inch seam. Do this on both side edges. White thread was used so it would be visible in the photo.
Step 3 – Make the Arm Opening
Pin the side seams open above the dot.
Carefully sew around the open edge pivoting just below the dot. These will be the arm holes.
Step 4 – Sew the Casing
Measure and fold the top of the dress down 3/4 inch toward the wrong side of the fabric.
Sew along the edge to make the casing. Do this for the front and back of the dress.
Step 5 – Insert the Elastic
Put a safety pin on the end of your elastic to help you insert it through the casing.
Go through the front casing and then continue around through the back casing.
Make the ends of the elastic even and sew them together.
Pull the sewn edge of the elastic into the casing to hide it. Even out the gathers on the top of the dress.
Step 5 – Finish the Hem
Cut small triangles off the bottom of the dress to give it a ragged look.
Place the regular sewing needle back in your machine.

Witch Cape
5/8 yard of 2 two different cotton fabrics
Two 15 inch pieces of 1/4 inch wide ribbon
Chalk Wheel or other fabric marking pencil
Fray Check (optional) for ribbon
Freezer paper, wrapping paper or newspaper to draw your pattern on
Sewing supplies
Step 1 – Make the Pattern
Draw a large circle with a 10 1/2 inch radius (21 inch diameter). If you don’t have a large compass you can tape a string to a pencil . Hold the string at a center mark, pull it taught and draw the circle.
Draw another circle with a 1 inch radius (2 inch diameter) using the same center mark.
Cut out the large circle and fold it in half. Then fold in half again to make a 1/4 circle.
Unfold the circle. Follow the fold lines you just made and cut out 1/4 of the circle and around the small center circle to make a cape pattern.
Step 2 – Cut the Fabrics
Stack the fabrics with pretty sides touching. Pin the the pattern on top and cut it all out.
Step 3 – Sew the Cape
Remove the pattern and re-pin the fabrics together with pretty sides touching and edges even.
Measure and mark a 2 inch opening with your chalk wheel on the straight edge of the cape.
Sew around the cape using a 3/8 inch seam. Do not sew between your marks.
Step 4 – Clip Curves
Carefully clip all the curves. Do not cut your stitching.
Carefully clip a small triangle off each corner. Do not cut your stitching.
Step 5 – Topstitch
Turn the cape pretty side out. Use your point turner to poke pretty corners.
Work the seam to the edge and pin as you go. Turn the edges of the opening in and pin. Press the cape neatly.
Top stitch around the cape using a 1/4 inch seam. This will sew the opening shut as you go.
Step 6 – Add Ribbons
Pin and stitch the ribbons to the top corner of the cape
Add a drop of fray check to the ribbon ends (optional).

Trick-O-Treat Bag
1/8 yard of fabric
8 inches of 1/4 inch wide ribbon
Freezer paper, wrapping paper or newspaper to draw your pattern on
Sewing supplies
Step 1 – Make the Pattern
Draw a 4 1/2 x 9 inch rectangle on paper and label it “Treat Bag – Cut 1”
Step 2 – Cut the Fabric
Pin the pattern to the fabric and cut it out.
Step 3 – Sew the Hem
Remove the pattern.
Measure and fold the top and bottom edge 1/2 inch towards the wrong side of the fabric and pin.
Sew along these edges to make the hem.
Step 4 – Sew the Sides
Fold the fabric in half with “pretty sides” touching. Make the side edges even and pin.
Sew the side edges using a 3/8 inch seam.
Step 5 – Add the Ribbon Handle
Pin and sew the ribbon to the sides of the bag.

Witch Hat
1/3 yard of felt
Hand sewing needle
Freezer paper, wrapping paper or newspaper to draw your pattern on
Sewing supplies
Step 1 – Make the Pattern
Hat Top
Draw a circle with a 5 1/2 inch radius (11 inch diameter).
Measure and mark 16 inches along the circumference.
Draw from these marks to the center.
Cut out along the lines to make a wedge.
Label the pattern “Hat Top – cut 1”
Hat Rim
Now draw a circle with a 4 1/4 inch radius (8 1/2 inch diameter).
Using the same center draw another circle inside using a 2 inch radius (4 inch diameter).
Cut this out. It will be donut shape.
Label the pattern “Hat Rim - Cut 1”

tep 2 – Cut out the Felt
Pin the patterns to the felt and cut them out.

tep 3 – Sew the Hat Top
Roll the felt into a cone shape. Overlap the edges approx. 1/2 inch and pin.
Hand sew along this edge using a small whip stitch.
Step 4 – Add the Rim
Slide the hat rim over the hat top(cone) with “pretty sides” touching.
Make the bottom edges even and pin. If they aren’t exactly the same size gently work in the ease to make them even. This will give the hat rim a little wave which is OK.
Machine sew around the hat using a 3/8 seam allowance.
Turn hat pretty side out and press in shape with your finger. Don’t iron the felt.
Enjoy your hat!
Mask
Scrap of fun foam
17 inches of round elastic
Hole punch
Pattern Printed Out Below
Print this pattern out. It includes a 1 inch scale on the sheet for sizing.
Trace the mask on to fun foam and cut out.
Hole punch at the marks.
Tie on one end of the elastic and adjust to fit the dolls head. Then tie the other end.
Enjoy your Mask.
